A Killer Question: the Right Choice of Mattress?
Even the toughest and most rugged people out there need a good night’s rest to be able to tackle a new day, and unfortunately the importance of achieving quality sleep is largely overlooked by a society that is obsessed with what we do awake—not how we sleep! Nonetheless, over recent years (the last decade or so) there has been a rising tide of awareness about the tremendous relevance and importance of ensuring quality rest at night, and hence the proliferation of newer and better mattress technologies that are conquering the market. There are some really exciting innovations that are laying folks down oh-so-comfortably at night, and helping to guarantee a healthy, focused, and energized populous!
One of the most heralded innovations in mattress technology came about in 1992 when the Tempur-Pedic brand of mattresses introduced a revolutionary new type of mattress composed of nothing but memory foam. Ever since that moment, steel spring coils have been on a slow but steady funeral march, though they retain a high portion of users throughout the global population. Memory foam is made with the highly available material polyurethane, making it very practical and feasible from a production point of view, with certain chemical additives that give it the precise properties that make it one of the most sought-after varieties of mattress. Essentially, what the memory foam does is that it conforms to your body’s contours, reducing pressure and stress areas when lying down and thus ensuring a more peaceful night’s sleep with fewer tosses and turns. Memory foam is not to be confused with ordinary foam, used in many mattresses as either a portion or the entirety of the mattress itself; these mattresses are usually of a lower quality.
One reason that the steel spring mattresses have remained such a prominent actor on the mattress market is that 1) people are so familiar with them and 2) several improvements in spring calibration and in overall mattress quality have been accomplished. For example, the cushioned tops placed on many spring mattresses have become increasingly sophisticated and effective at relieving pressure, thus guaranteeing this mattress a continued spot at the marketplace.
